Putnam City Families and Staff,

We hope you are enjoying some summer fun with family and friends. The new school year will be here soon, and we have a few quick updates to answer some question that have been in the news and online recently.

School Hours: There are no changes for Putnam City Schools. Start/End times stay exactly the same.

Elementary Recess Times: A new state law requires more recess time for elementary students. Good news is that Putnam City has already incorporated 30 minutes a day for recess and we will easily be increasing that to 40 minutes to meet the new requirement. 20 minutes of the 40 is considered instructional time. Your student’s overall school day start/end times are not affected.

School Calendar: A new state law requires additional instructional days per school year. Because Putnam City counts instructional time by hours and not days, we do not need to modify the Board-approved school year calendar as we are still within the requirements. However, we want to provide notice now that if we have to use inclement weather days this year, it could possibly shift/remove a planned day off or move our last day of school back. This will be determined by how many total inclement weather days we have to use.

Other Reminders:

  • School supply lists are now available for most schools.

Check our website to find your school’s list.

  • Please check your email and/or TalkingPoints messages for any important communications from our District Enrollment Office. 2026-2027 Registration and Residency Affidavit reminders have been sent. If you have no messages, then you are all caught up! Thank you in advance.

As always, thank you for being part of the Putnam City Schools community and for supporting our schools.

Go Boldly,

-Putnam City Schools
